Another fabric postcard and a little organizing

I recently said that I hadn't had a chance to do anything crafty lately, but I forgot all about this little fabric postcard I made between visits from the bro'. I wanted to send this one out to someone, but I wasn't fast enough. Damn. My daughter says this one's not leaving the house, so I must bow to her teenage will. Aside from that, I started cleaning my work area i.e. sewing table today. So...If you don't hear from me soon, you will know that I fell victim to an avalanche of craft supplies, fabric, beads and buttons.

A faire aujourd'hui...

Today I need to:

- finish my June Bug for Loobylu's month of softies if it isn't too late
- craft a little present for my son's teacher because the end of the school year is now upon me (eek!)
- watch the beginning of the French version of the show "Survivor" on tv with the family
- pay for the sumo fabric I bought on eBay (yes, I said Sumo, as in wrestler)
- get back on the internet and find a vacation spot (I've spent a billion hours doing this)- I am looking for something here
- post pictures of the last 3 fabric postcards in the "pod series"

Well, at least this last thing is now done. I tried doing it before and deleted the whole post before I could save it. Duh. You'll recognize the card I posted the other day in the middle of the group. Now on to something different (I hope)!

I am sure I forgot something on my list... Someone once said that the only person to get everthing done by Friday was Robinson Crusoe.

How many pod card variations did I actually make? I'm not sure, I'll have to have a look in iPhoto and see... But right now I'm far too obsessed with listening to über cool online radio at last fm (recently added to sidebar). Music to create by!

Bamboo & blossoms

Here's a slightly different fabric postcard, and truly one of a kind because I had such a tiny piece of the flower fabric. I free-motion stitched stylized bamboo with gold thread and then fused on a flower I cut out from some Japanese kimono silk. Then I improvised a couple of buds (hmmm, that's funny: they look like the pods to me too...), and satin stitched the stems. I love bamboo- that was the first thing I planted when I finally got my own yard.

I still can't get away from these seed pods, so here are two more in each color. The squares are made of fused Angelina fiber, and don't photograph very well. Well, it's going to be another hot summery day, and today the Summer Sales start! Woohoo!! Why the excitement? Because legally there are only Sales twice a year in France, so no Labor Day sales or Ground Hogs Day sales or any of that nonsense here! It's fun having a teenage daughter to go shopping with :o)

:: Summer ::

Happy first day of Summer! Actually I think it started early in France because it has been really hot here in the 'burbs of Paris for well over a week now. (I would do anything to have a car with air conditioning). Anyway to celebrate Summer, here's a "bee happy" fabric postcard I made and sent out last week. Maybe I forgot to mention this, but the theme for this particular exchange was "garden fantasy".

Today was also la Fête de la Musique, ie Music Day here. This started in France over twenty (24- already?) years ago, and the idea spread to other European countries. This was the brainchild of Jack Lang who actually has a blog I just found out.

My son had a meltdown earlier and I was hot and tired, so I thought it best to avoid fighting the crowds in Versailles or Paris to see any free concerts this year!

Batch of seedpods

I have been spending more time at the sewing machine- I have a few more fabric postcards to make before the deadline this week! I don't usually work in a "series", mainly because I never know what I'm going to make next, but I liked the colors and style of this first card so much that I decided to make 2 more in the same vein. It's fun trying to see how I can make them different, and I like seeing them all together. I have some batik fabric left, so I'll see if I can come up with a few more. At least I will save time on trying to decide what colors to use! This dusty rose color is pretty hard to photograph though. The book Rennie Mackintosh Inspirations in Embroidery by Dorothy Wood was very inspirational during the process.

There's been a lot of postcard action going on behind the scenes here, but what with the classes I've been taking I didn't have time to take pictures and blog about it really. I'm going to remedy this right now. I received the last of the 10 postcards from Myra's postcard swap, so here they all are! Many thanx to:

Postcard swap update

Here are the postcards I made for the swap Myra organized. I would've shown photos of these earlier but I didn't want to mess up the element of surprise :o) Well guess what boys n' girls: the surprise is that the cards were late. I hope that the people who get these will like 'em and not be pissed off at me for the delay! I kept hesitating between making fabric postcards or paper postcards, so I made a few fabric ones and the rest with paper and fabric. The froggy cards were inspired by one of my Japanese craft books. As you can see, I'm also trying to finish up a 3-D version in felt for my son. Tomorrow I'll try and post pictures of the cards I received in exchange. They're all so different and pretty and I love them all!
