I spent over a half hour admiring all the March Softies. I love seeing everyone's creations, and discovering new blogs at the same time. I wish I'd made a Softie this time, but I couldn't come to terms with last month's theme, ie. a self-portrait of the artist as a child. At first I thought I would make a little extraterrestrial looking Softie, which could pass as me as a kid because I always felt kind of different ("decalé in French?) from other kids. Maybe it was because I started off reaaally shy, and because it bugged me when other kids asked me: "So, what are you?" as they invariably did... They meant "what nationality are you?" (My mom was from Germany and my dad was Creole from Louisiana). Funny how people need to label others and put them in little boxes... Maybe it was just the late 60's - early 70's in L.A., and there was all this racial tension, I don't know. Anyway, I was that arty quiet kid with the unruly hair who liked to read a lot, who got nice grades, who got picked last for sports teams, and who was a totally different person outside of school. Remember? Dolls kinda creeped me out, but I loved playing with trolls. My brother and I collected them. He built them things and I made them clothes. So here is a self-portrait of me as a troll, with some pet cats (I had lots of those). This timid little troll is blue, which was my favorite color, and has wild hair like I did except that I'm not blonde :o)
Where in Louisiana is your father from? I'm from Lake Charles, Louisiana...and still living here in the area.
"I was that arty quiet kid with the unruly hair who liked to read a lot, who got nice grades, who got picked last for sports teams, and who was a totally different person outside of school."-----creepy, you've pretty much described ME when I was young!
hehee... trolls, boy do I remember those. I had quite a few and loved to play with them!
