Two things happened Friday: I found those exotic hand stencils I mentioned (see "Fabric Journal Page" entry) hiding between the pages of an altered book I started last Summer, and the sun came out. "Yes! Sun printing!" I thought, and nearly tripped over myself in my haste to dye a little fabric with some Setacolor paint. I slapped a stencil on it, and ran to the backyard to find a sunny spot. Now if you live in California or if you can see palm trees from your window you are probably thinking: "well, BFD!", but here in the 'burbs of Paris in the dead of Winter a few hours of sunshine IS a big deal. Anyway, here's the result which is not bad considering the fact that the sunshine lasted less than an hour. So much for making more squares, but next time I'll be ready. These stencils are a little sticky on the back and adhere nicely to wet fabric, so the sun printing is nice and clear. I've tried printing with leaves and other objects but the results are not as crisp. I'll have to keep experimenting with this...
Now I love that motif on the fabric! Dang that is just clever!

Can you explain more about the process of sun dying? I thought that it consisted of the sun fading a spot in a fabric, but I'm infering that it actually is the opposite: the sun brings out the color.
Sorry to be so naive.
