I have been wanting to post this website ever since I stumbled onto it recently. This is a terrific online Art Dictionary. Like the homepage says this site is ideal: "for artists, collectors, students and educators in art production, criticism, history, aesthetics, and education". Here is a brief description of the site from the author and creator of ARTLEX, Michael Delahunt: "ArtLex has definitions in English for thousands of terms used in visual culture, along with images of examples, pronunciation notes, great quotations, and cross-references. ArtLex is a great resource for artists, students, and collectors who want to research all kinds of art production and history."
I couldn't have said it better. If you're looking for inspiration or if you need to do some research then this is the place. Don't know what an emakimono is? Giclée? Look it up on ARTLEX! I've added a Links section to my sidebar today, and this is the 1st one I put in there: http://www.artlex.com/
Rummaging through this site today, I ended up at the Tokyo National Museum, where I saw this really beautiful sculpture of a Bodhisattva dating back to somewhere between 606 and 666. Rendez-vous @ artlex to see and find out more!
