goodbye Madcap...

Syd_barrettAs a child of the 60's, self-respecting rock fan, and Pink Floyd devotee, I just wanted to mark his passing. He inspired a lot of musicians (ask David Bowie). I was only about 8 or 9 when he left Pink Floyd, but I remember the thrill I felt when I first listened to the band when I was in my early teens. Syd's story always made me feel sad, and I can't help but think that he's free now, ya know?

A day to remember

Mothersday2006
Mother's Day was yesterday here, and it was awesome. A quick trip to a local brocante (flea market), Japanese food for lunch, the kids were being good, and best of all: one hell of a surprise.
Miles decorated a heart shaped box at school with a little poem inside,Goodluck_shisha_2 my daughter got me this shisha mirror good luck charm made by a tribe living between India and Pakistan, and the DH outdid himself by getting me one of the very last tickets to see Eric Clapton. When I opened the envelope (collaged and decorated by my kids) I was thinking "hmm, gift certi ficate!", and then I saw the concert ticket - THEN I saw that the concert was the same day and that in a few hours I would be driving out to Paris to see Clapton in concert. Woohoo! Awesome. I've been listening to Eric Clapton ever since my early teens but never managed to see him LIVE, so this was a very cool present! I've been wanting to see him for about 30 years now and wanted to see him before we both get too old to enjoy concerts LOL. Merci!!! I even made this tiny video for such a momentous ocasion- but my camera proved unworthy so please excuse the quality. Just wanted to share :o)

Is it just me, or...

Oasis_1 Img_ms2005_1
Seeing these photos side by side, why do I get the feeling that I don't know what I'm in for in about 10 or 15 years from now...? My 7 year old international man of mystery and sometime poseur strikes again.

Online radio and other craft soundtracks

In an effort to unstress myself lately, I've been listening to more music on my computer, and that's when I discovered radioblogclub. Now if I could only figure out how to add this feature to my blog, that would be very cool... Anyway go to their site, type the name of a song or artist you like in the search box, click on a song and listen! How cool is that? Otherwise I sometimes listen to DroneZone, or (and I love this station's name!) Secret Agent: The soundtrack for your stylish, mysterious, dangerous life- (yeah, I wish! Okay, but not the "dangerous" part...) -both brought to you by the folks at Soma FM. I still have yet to try out Paris's first all English radio station parislive.fm, geared to ex-pats and anglophiles. And lastly, something more exotic: Iceland gave us Björk (who my friend Isabelle swears is an elf), and now there's Sigur Rós, also from Iceland. I'm intrigued by their atmospheric music right now, which you can explore on iTunes or even download here.

:: Summer ::

Bee_happy_1 Happy first day of Summer! Actually I think it started early in France because it has been really hot here in the 'burbs of Paris for well over a week now. (I would do anything to have a car with air conditioning). Anyway to celebrate Summer, here's a "bee happy" fabric postcard I made and sent out last week. Maybe I forgot to mention this, but the theme for this particular exchange was "garden fantasy".

Today was also la Fête de la Musique, ie Music Day here. This started in France over twenty (24- already?) years ago, and the idea spread to other European countries. This was the brainchild of Jack Lang who actually has a blog I just found out.

My son had a meltdown earlier and I was hot and tired, so I thought it best to avoid fighting the crowds in Versailles or Paris to see any free concerts this year!

Tag, I'm IT!- music meme

Cassi at Bella Dia (see sidebar) tagged me with the music meme, so here goes!

1. Total amount of music files on your computer:
I don't store music on my old iMac mainly because I use the disk space for image files, and because I'd rather buy CDs. (Call me old fashioned.) Hey, does the theme song from the cartoon "Oggy & the Cockroaches" count? That's 808 ko, then. I love that cartoon and I can totally relate to Oggy the cat. (Call me childish.) Check Oggy out here! xilam

2. The last CD you bought was:
I think it was Eric Clapton's "Me and Mr. Johnson". I like the Blues, but will listen to almost anything but Country/Western music. (I can relate to the Blues. And to Oggy. Did I tell you that Oggy is a blue cat?).

3. What is the song you last listened to before reading this message?
"Love to be loved"- Peter Gabriel

4. Write down 5 songs you often listen to or that mean a lot to you:
Wow, too many to choose from! I'll put down some of the oldest ones...
"Knights in White Satin"- the Moody Blues
"Us and Them"-Pink Floyd
"Time" -the Alan Parsons Project
"The Crystal Ship"- the Doors
"Fragile"- Sting

Okay, I don't think there is anybody left to tag with this thing and being a relatively new blogger I don't know many others who haven't already been tagged. Leave me a message telling me you want to be tagged though, and I'll pass this on!
