Just like mormor used to make

Mormors_veste I just love the idea behind this Danish website: mormor.nu! Mormor means grandmother in Danish and the youngest employee at mormor is 68. These grandmothers knit and crochet retro style baby and toddler clothes with the best materials (you won't find any mass produced acrylic baby sweaters here!) and best of all you can buy them online.
If my son was still a baby I would've loved to buy him something from these grannies because he doesn't have any grandparents at all, and all this stuff is handmade with love- each item even comes with a nametag with the signature of the grandma who knit or crocheted it! This is quoted from their website: "Mormor.nu has found some of the best Granmas to help us produce our baby-clothes. The older generation pass their special knowledge about housework and handycrafts on – mostly accompanied by a cup of coffee and vivid conversations across the table." What a nice philosophy.

it's Spring, so use your Noggin

Misternoggin
Happy SPRING! It's a new season, so I wanted to try something new today- new for me anyway :o) I was trying not to think about it too much and just jump in and do it, but it's funny how my mind kept trying to throw me a monkey wrench the whole time I was sewing this. First I was wondering why I was actually cutting up one of my husband's socks to make this creature, then my mind kept telling me that it wouldn't come out right and that I should scrap the project before inevitable disappointment ensued. Then I started to worry that my son wouldn't like it because it didn't look exactly like his drawing. That's where the whole idea started: I wanted to make Miles a doll from one of his drawings. He draws lots of quirky people, robots, animals, etc. so I wanted to surprise him with one of his own creations. Milesdrawing_noggin_1 Few things are more amazing than the mind of a 7 year old boy! (His mind usually throws him monkey wrenches at school, sigh...) Anyway, I finished sewing this as fast as I could, before the sensible part of my brain caught up with the rest of me. The reward was huge: Miles LOVES his sock creature! He named him Noggin (probably because he's been playing around on here lately). So, this project was good for both of us: self esteem because I finished it (bwahaha!) and because Miles knows that Mommy thought his design was that good, so now we both feel creative :o) Last I saw Noggin, Miles was showing him around the place (yes, my son talks to sock people- doesn't everyone?), and then he tucked him in his bed next to his favorite monkey. I still have a sock left, and Miles has lots of ideas... if we can keep the monkey wrenches at bay something may come of it!

Robots on the brain

Robot_de_franquin_1 NB: My finger is much better but then last weekend my head decided that a migraine would be fun to take Pain up to the next level (or two), hence the lack of posts lately.
Anyway this very cool felt robot I saw on BoingBoing today made me start thinking about robots again, so I thought I'd post this robot photo I took last Summer at the expo dedicated to the late Belgian comic book artist Franquin. I don't know what comic book this one appeared in though.

My son Miles loves robots so I decided to check out his cyborg name and I might have known that something like this would come up... how fitting. Funnily enough, my robot name compliments his quite nicely.

Is it just me, or...

Oasis_1 Img_ms2005_1
Seeing these photos side by side, why do I get the feeling that I don't know what I'm in for in about 10 or 15 years from now...? My 7 year old international man of mystery and sometime poseur strikes again.

Of links and of fairy stories

T_introoday

perhaps you would like to:

*Visit the world's tallest virtual building
*Find out where time goes
*Marvel over this awesome jewelry
*Play this mildly irritating puzzle
*Find out about the town I live in

Or maybe you'd rather forget all that and click on the new fairytale link I just added to my sidebar. I love this site! You can read fairy tales online and admire beautiful vintage illustrations. This was my favorite story as a kid, and to this day I fantasize about elves coming to whip my house into shape and take care of all of my unfinished projects during the night. I would gladly make tiny elf clothes in exchange (that would be fun too!)
