(note to self: How neat! Now why can't I think of anything this cute??)

amigurumi wabbit

Amigurumi_wabbit   Sumo_bunny
Just finished a small amigurumi rabbit, made from a pattern in one of the books I got for my birthday. Okay, he isn't very Halloweenish, but he was fun and easy to make during the odd moments when I had just a few minutes here and there . Amigurumi_wipLately it's much simpler for me to whip out a crochet hook than it is to set up my sewing machine and paw through my fabrics and embellishments as I am temporarily lacking craft space. The last thing I "sewed" was the tiny silk chirimen scarf this bunny is wearing! That, and his ears :o)

Done!

Mosaic6241884

Yay! I finished the kitty! Believe it or not, my husband actually claimed this one before it was even finished :o) My son wants a blue and white one with a red nose; maybe I can make one for his birthday in November. I started this as a keep-me-sane project during those last days of my temp job. The job is finished and so is this amigurumi. It feels good just to finish anything really. My creativity has been suffering since that last job and because my husband requisitioned my big sewing table. He needed a desk for his studies (more about that later), so I now need to scour Ikea for a smaller table (one that folds in half? Where would I even put that?). Until then, I guess I'll have to make portable crafts like this kitty! Better photos on Flickr.

My Backtack softie unveiled

Horsesoftie_croquechoux

Now that I'm sure that the stuffed animal I made for Eireann in the Backtack III swap finally arrived safely, I can post pictures! I don't have many photos of it though unfortunately, because I just took a few quick pictures before putting the pony in its yellow Postbox paddock.

I wish I had taken more detailed photos! The pony's eyes are very tiny vintage mother of pearl buttons, and I added a little hand embroidery on his legs and appliqued flowers on his hind quarters. This little felt horse was made from a pattern I bought in Sweden about 17 years ago. A little more  hand  sewing than I remember, and a bit tricky, but it makes a very cute horse. Here is another shot of him admiring the view from the roof of my car

Backtack III teaser

Img_3997    Img_4007
I am embarrassingly behind with everything in my life right now: housework, e-mail, sewing, reading, washing, (take your pick) - and it's after 2 am Friday night, but I just wanted to finally post a couple of teaser shots of the Backtack III Softie that I made for Eireann. About time, I know. Without giving too much away, the accent color is red as you can see, and I used a pattern that I bought in Sweden about 17 years ago (!). There was more  handsewing than I bargained for, but I really like the way it turned out. That's all I can say now, until it arrives safely in the U.S.

This week at the new job was a little better, but I still feel like I've been putting out a lot of little fires the whole time. And this weekend has to be better than the last 2- I mean a 3rd weekend with a 48 hour migraine just cannot be. And for once, this Saturday there is no school, no karate, and no homework- woohoo! So I plan to read, sleep, do something creative, and maybe even squeeze in a little housework (yuk)!

Backtack III

Btbutton3 Backtack III is up and running, and I managed to sign up this time! Good thing I'm a night person, because signups started around 1 am my time, and within 1 hour and 10 minutes the quota was reached. So I'm pondering what sort of softie I'll be making for this and sifting through my black and white fabrics. My partner is Eireann & this is her site.

Socks (other people's)

Sock_people_in_store_window Since we're still kinda sorta on the subject of socks, here's a photo I took around Christmas time.
The Printemps department store in Paris had an animated window of sock people watching television (complete with faux snacks). Cute :o)

it's Spring, so use your Noggin

Misternoggin
Happy SPRING! It's a new season, so I wanted to try something new today- new for me anyway :o) I was trying not to think about it too much and just jump in and do it, but it's funny how my mind kept trying to throw me a monkey wrench the whole time I was sewing this. First I was wondering why I was actually cutting up one of my husband's socks to make this creature, then my mind kept telling me that it wouldn't come out right and that I should scrap the project before inevitable disappointment ensued. Then I started to worry that my son wouldn't like it because it didn't look exactly like his drawing. That's where the whole idea started: I wanted to make Miles a doll from one of his drawings. He draws lots of quirky people, robots, animals, etc. so I wanted to surprise him with one of his own creations. Milesdrawing_noggin_1 Few things are more amazing than the mind of a 7 year old boy! (His mind usually throws him monkey wrenches at school, sigh...) Anyway, I finished sewing this as fast as I could, before the sensible part of my brain caught up with the rest of me. The reward was huge: Miles LOVES his sock creature! He named him Noggin (probably because he's been playing around on here lately). So, this project was good for both of us: self esteem because I finished it (bwahaha!) and because Miles knows that Mommy thought his design was that good, so now we both feel creative :o) Last I saw Noggin, Miles was showing him around the place (yes, my son talks to sock people- doesn't everyone?), and then he tucked him in his bed next to his favorite monkey. I still have a sock left, and Miles has lots of ideas... if we can keep the monkey wrenches at bay something may come of it!

Les softies sont partout

Img_3064_1 I saw these for sale around Christmas time at the Publicis Drugstore on the Champs Elysées, and whipped my camera out for a quick photo. My gut reaction when I saw these was: "ohmygod! somebody is knocking off Rosa", but a few days later I thought "well if that is so, I guess it is the sincerest form of flattery as they say". These softies by minilabo are very cute, but I totally prefer Rosa's unique whimsical dolls. At least you can now find artoys and softies for sale on one of the most happening streets in Paris. I should get out more often!

This is going to be a quick post, as it looks like heavy sewing or typing is out for me until further notice. I pinched a nerve in the middle finger of my right hand and it hurts like hell! I can't bend it without cringing in pain, so probably the only thing I'll be able to do really well til it gets better is flip people off... ouch!
